IMO C.

A) use of word 'being' and ambiguous 'it'
B) ambiguous 'it'
D) 'which' wrongly modifies New York City
E) Lacks parallelism

That leaves us with C.

I will also go with C - Also, placement of 'in 1825' in option D & E changes the meaning

Hello Kevin..could you take this up and clarify what everyone is missing. We still dont know the OA. i would go with B, as it sounds more logical than any other option. in C, the last line, on the canal the move. D n E are out of the equation for me.

A. When a ton of wheat was being moved from Buffalo to New York City before the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825, it took three weeks and cost $100, but when the canal was used, it

(lack parallelism: when a ton was being moved..before opening of canal...but when the canal.... Additionally 'was being moved'...took' means while wheat was being moved it took 3 weeks...how can that be. It would take 3 weeks when we complted the movement...therefore 'was moved...took' better)

B. Moving a ton of wheat from Buffalo to New York City before the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825, it took three weeks and cost $100; using the canal, it

(it refers to 'ton of wheat' but ton of wheat alone is not the subject...rather 'moving a ton of wheat' is; additionally, 'moving...1825' modifier modifying 'it' and 'it' refers to 'a ton' in the modifier...its circular reference...=> incorrect)

C. Before the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825, moving a ton of wheat from Buffalo to New York City took three weeks and cost $100; on the canal the move

(correct; sentence brought things in expected order: before opening of canal...moving ton of wheat took; On the canal the move...

D. In 1825, before opening the Erie Canal, to move a ton of wheat took three weeks from Buffalo to New York City, which cost $100; moving it on the canal

('which' refers to city; additionally, 'it' does not has a referent...'a ton' is part of prep phrase)

E. To move a ton of wheat in 1825 from Buffalo to New York City took three weeks before the opening of the Erie Canal, costing $100, but in using the canal, the move

(lack parallelism: "to move...but ...the move" ...to before 2nd move required
