John runs as fast as Mary.
Conveyed meaning:
John runs as fast as Mary [runs].
The word in brackets is omitted but implied.

A: The economy might be growing as fast as to accelerate inflation.
Implied comparison:
The economy might be growing as fast as to accelerate inflation [might be growing].
The words in brackets are omitted but implied.
The result is a nonsensical comparison.
Eliminate A.

Dear GMATGuru,

1- What does 'that' in the OA refer to ? I think it refers to 'concern'.

2- In the non-underlined part, 'in response to.............and to..........' does the second 'to' necessary to maintain parallelism?

Thanks

Correct!
2- In the non-underlined part, 'in response to.............and to..........' does the second 'to' necessary to maintain parallelism?

Thanks
If the second to is omitted, a reader might interpret as follows:
The treasury market dropped in response to a decrease in the value of the dollar and [a decrease in] continued concern.
The inclusion of the second to makes the intended meaning crystal clear:
The treasury market dropped in response to a decrease in the value of the dollar and [in response] to continued concern.
