Choice A is chosen as correct by MGMAT.
I chose Choice E because it clearly states why the ailing mobster chose to take refuge in Corleone. Because it was a town that was near those he most trusted. The town was famous because of a movie.
THe meaning in choice A seems confusing to me. "Corleone, a town famous because of the movie and near to those he most trusted". This sentence seems awkward. It seems like some people might interpret it to mean this town is famous also because it was near to those he most trusted. Gramatically it does not mean that, because it would add "and because it was near..", but it sounds awkward and I thought that was a criteria for GMAT SC questions to be correct.
For it to be a better sentence, I felt that choice A would be made better if it said "the ailing mobster came to take refuge in Corleone, a town near to those he most trusted, and famous because of "the godfather"."
Can someone tell me if i am analyzing SC questions too deeply? Perhaps I should just focus on grammatical errors, but if i focus on only grammatical errors, then choice E is also fine. It is slightly wordier, but it makes more sense to me..
