The investigations of many psychologists and anthropologists support the generalization (of there being little that is a significant difference ) in the underlying mental processes manifested by people from different cultures.

(A) of there being little that is a significant difference

(B) of there being little that is significantly different

(C) of little that is significantly different

(D) that there is little that is significantly different

(E) that there is little of significant differences

Is it D?

A, B - being makes the sentence awkward
C - "of" makes the construction awkward
E - "little of" is incorrect

That leaves us with D. Sounds weird but the other choices are
equally out of whack

The answer is D.

A, B, and C can be eliminated because the idiom is "generalization that" in this case. "Generalization of" is used immediately preceding whatever category of thing is being generalized.

E is wrong because differences is plural and will not agree with the rest of the sentence if inserted. 'Little of' is not wrong, but it's "little of difference" not "little of differences". The answer is therefore D.

Frankly, the two 'thats' in D suck, but it is still the best answer. E would have been a better turn of phrase without the pluralization error.
