Are you sure it's E?

"Not only . . . but also" is a correlative construction that requires the two things joined to be parallel. I ate not only two pieces of pie, but also three pieces of cake. Choice B lacks a subject for the second clause, which makes them no longer parallel. Choice D breaks the sentence out of "not only . . . but also", opting instead for two parallel clauses joined by "but."

Can u please explain why option A and B violate parallelism?
