Because of the multiplier effect inherent in any unlimited-transaction economy, the spending of one dollar typically generates several times the gross income in such an economy than in a single- or limited-transaction economy.

A)typically generates several times the gross income in such an economy than
B)typically generates several times the gross income in such an economy than it would
C)typically generates several times as much gross income in such an economy as though
D)in such an economy typically generates several times as much gross income as the spending of one dollar would
E)in such an economy typically generates several times the gross income than

my concern: is A wrong just because we do not have "MORE" with "THAN"

can i say that the placement of the construction "in such an economy" is WRONG in option A? ---->regarding this i feel that the meaning is coming out more or less same in both the following construction:
construction 1: the spending of one dollar in such an economy typically generates.........
construction 2: the spending of one dollar typically generates in such an economy........

i agree that the ROLE of the construction "in such an economy" in above two construction is different; however i feel that the meaning is same in both

Incorrect: X times more than Y.
Incorrect: X times than Y.
Correct: X times Y.

An INCORRECT ANSWER from GMATPrep:
CEO's now earn...419 times more pay than blue-collar workers.
Here, 419 times more is unidiomatic.
The OA:
CEO's now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers.

The intended meaning is to compare the income generated by the spending of one dollar IN SUCH AN ECONOMY to the income generated by the spending of one dollar in a SINGLE- OR LIMITED-TRANSACTION ECONOMY.

Implied comparison:

please tell me if this is the case then how come following sentence is correct: Minority graduates are nearly four times more LIKELY than other graduates TO PLAN ON PRACTICING in socioeconomically deprived areas.

Virtually every rule has an exception.
An exception to the rule above:
times + COMPARATIVE seems to be acceptable when the main verb is a form of to be.
Another official example:
Its numbers are now five times greater than when the use of DDT was sharply restricted in the early 1970's.
