Note :- Whenever there is a phrase NOT ONLY X, it should be followed by BUT ALSO Y. There cannot be a sentence without BUT ALSO.

A--> BUT ALSO in not there even.
B--> OF makes incoorect parallelism.
D--> Sentence fragment, Not only must be followed by but also.
E-->>>>>> Same as D

@ shekar
@ bubliii

One thing i noticed in the C sentence is that the adverb "significantly" is intruding after "but also" and before the verb "improves"

I understand the OA is C, but is this a right construction?
Any explanation for this?
Regards,
Karthik

yes it is. A verb can be followed by an adverb/adverbial modifier as far as parallelism is maintained between the two parts (meant to be parallel) of the sentences.

Yes, it is correct because both NOT ONLY and BUT ALSO are followed by VERB PHRASE ( same structure ) and significantly simply modifies the verb.

(D) diabetes; it also significantly improves glucose tolerance in individuals already suffering from it
(E) diabetes; individuals already suffering from the disease have glucose tolerances that are significantly improved by it

setence is of the form
Not only X but also Y . ------------we need x and Y to be parallel
A - is not parallell as we donot have ' but also '
B- but also of - we didnt have of in first part - wrong
C- OK
D,E - the first part is not complete as we donot have ' but also '
IMO: C
