Although there was no contest for senator or governor and voters were expected to be apathetic, the referenda proved so controversial that 90% of those registered showed up at the polls.
A. of those registered showed up at the polls
B. of the registered showed up at the polls
C. of the registered voters showed up at the polls to vote
D. were registered to vote
E. who were not showed up at the polls

My pick B

D & E wrong as they change the meaning

C is redundant with the "to vote" at the end.

B is concise & clear

those is not necessary in A. 90% of the registered is better than 90% of those registered

B is ambigous to me.'Registered' what? It should be registered voters.
What say?

I thought about it. registered cannot refer to any one else but voters in the sentence.

A clear or easy to pick answer would have voters in there

What is the OA?

I feel it should be (c).

(b) reads - "90% of the registered (voters) showed up". (voters) is implied here, but ellipsis like this one makes the sentence a bit confusing.

What's the OA?

OA is B.registered cannot refer to any one else but voters in the sentence still doesn't mean that you don't need 'voters'.It makes it clear. I Aaso 'to vote' is not redundant.

I'll go with A. "Those registered" implies those registered to vote.

In B, "the registered ... what?" We're missing the word voters here.

C: If registered voters show up at the polls, they are obviously there to vote, so "to vote" is redundant in C.

I feel those registered in option A changes the intended meaning of the sentence if you read it carefully

registered+showed.. Can we write two pasts together one after another? I do not know.
I doubt it.
First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement
