Unlike most severance packages

by uptowngirl92 » Sat Aug 29, 2009 2:14 am
Unlike most severance packages, which require workers to stay until the last day scheduled to collect, workers at the automobile company are eligible for its severance package even if they find a new job before they are terminated.

A) the last day scheduled to collect, workers at the automobile company are eligible for its severance package
B) the last day they are scheduled to collect, workers are eligible for it at the automobile company's severance package
C) their last scheduled day to collect, the automobile company offers its severance package to workers
D) their last scheduled day in order to collect, the automobile company's severance package is available to workers
E) the last day that they are scheduled to collect, the automobile company's severance package is available to workers

I am reposting this post cos in the other thread no explanations are there.
PLease post your explanations!!

i think the answer should be D. because, here ur comparing Serevence package not the workers. So, 5 options boils down to 2. D & E..in these option.. right comparison is done...Pkg vs Pkg.

E being wordy,IMO D should be the answer

IMO D looks convincing!!
As said,Severance pacakages are compared and not the workers which is rightly handled by D.

E is wordy!!

I narrowed it down to D and E. Chose E because "in order to collect" doesn't sound right to me. E is concise and fluid.

from the beginning of the sentence, it's clear we're comparing "severance packages", so ABC are out (comparing to workers, workers, and companies)

D is better than E b/c the "which" clause for D is a single clause whereas E has a "that" clause inside a "which" clause, which is wordier (like everyone said already)

Don't you guys think that in order to in the D option is quite vague.
I guess it's E.

imho, I think E is a little vague with the modifier

Unlike most severance packages, which require workers to stay until...

D) their last scheduled day in order to collect, the automobile company's severance package is available to workers
E) the last day that they are scheduled to collect, the automobile company's severance package is available to workers

are workers required to stay until their last days they're scheduled or until their last days they're sheduled to collect their pay?

C

by EMAN » Mon Aug 31, 2009 10:04 am
Wht not C? E is wordy and I am not convinced you need 'in order to' in D.

I think the sencents do the compare between' most severance packages' with 'autombile company's severance package', so severance package should be compared, not anything else. So I think the answer should be D
