'was' and 'is'

Hi all,

Below listed is a correct sentence according to SC Grail and please clarify about the usage of was and is in the same sentence and being parallel

The Illusionist,a novel by Irish author Jennifer Johnston, was first published in 1995
by Sinclair Stevenson and is considered one of her best works.

"The Illusionist,a novel by Irish author Jennifer Johnston, was first published in 1995
by Sinclair Stevenson and is considered one of her best works"

Break the sentence into two parts:

"a novel by Irish author Jennifer Johnston" modifies- The Illusionist... Its the novel which "was" published...

The illusionist "is" considered one of her best works....

Remove the fluff - remove the appositive clause - "a novel by Irish author Jennifer Johnston". The sentence becomes clear.

I think the source of confusion is that there are 2 verbs and one of them is in present tense and the other is in present tense. Can these 2 verbs be made parallel in a sentence structure?

The Illusionist was first published in 1995 by Sinclair Stevenson and is considered one of her best works.

Experts, please help!

Does parallelism apply in this sentence ??

And is generally used in sentences as connectors and maintain parallelism.

But here, 2 statements in different time frames are discussed and hence they cannot be parallel.


Experts, advice. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Parallelism do not demand tense to be consistent.

The verb was indicates that the novel was first published in past i.e. in 1995

The verb is indicates that "The Illusionist" is still considered one of the Author's best work.
