SC - Parallelism (bit tough one)

The employees of the complaint department were split into several morale-boosting teams, whose members met to play weekly games on the local fields, and then take turns organizing dinner parties at different restaurants.


(A) fields, and then take turns organizing

(B) fields, then taking turns organizing

(C) fields and then took turns organizing

(D) fields and then take turns, they organized

(E) fields and then organized, taking turns for

(A) fields, and then take turns organizing
(if we're going use ", and", we need a complete clause afterwards, which we don't have here.)

(B) fields, then taking turns organizing
(does not fit with the previous use of past tense)

(C) fields and then took turns organizing
(parallel and fits the rest of the sentence: "...members met...and took...")

(D) fields and then take turns, they organized

("take" should be "took", and the second part is awkwardly tacked onto the end of the sentence without a connecting word)

(E) fields and then organized, taking turns for
(changes the meaning by reversing the order of organizing and taking turns)

Karthik,
I think this is what Bill meant: comma+and should be followed by complete clause( meaning it should have subject + verb) which is missing in choice A.

The verb is met and the parallelism indicator is and.... to play is an infinitive. Hence the parallel element in part 2 of the statement must be a past tense verb: took

A - comma + and needs an independent clause to be followed - wrong
B/D - run on sentences - no conjunction is used between two clauses met to play weekly games and take turns organizing dinner parties. moreover met is not parallel to taking and take
E - comma + ING modifies the entire preceding clause and changes the meaning.

IMO C.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

In correct option 2 and 3 are merged to form a single DC...also parallelism is correct. Hope this helps.
