Ques) John was thrilled, like the other members of the debate team, to participate in the tournament.

Ans) John, like the other members of the debate team, was thrilled to participate in the tournament.

The answer statement places John, which is modified by the phrase "Like the other members of the debate team"

My Question:
Is the following sentence also correct?
Ans 2) like the other members of the debate team, John was thrilled to participate in the tournament.

Is the second answer also correct?

What if the answer choices have both the options, which one to select and WHY?
