Hi Ron,

This is from one of our earlier discussion where you mentioned that following sentence is correct.
Wanted to reach home quickly, the football team took a short cut.
"Wanted to reach home quickly" is working as an ADJECTIVE, modifying "the football team"

Shouldn't it be INCORRECT unless modifier is replaced with Wanting to reach home quickly

Thanks
Vikram

could you provide the link of the earlier discussion you referred.

I feel "wanting" should be correct but i want to see Ron's reasoning.

thnx

that sentence is incorrect; it should be "wanting".

please link to the thread on which i supposedly wrote that this sentence was correct. (i sometimes make errors on the forum like anyone else, but i don't think i would make an error that grievous.)

thanks!

also,
please don't start a new thread when the discussion is in direct reference to an earlier thread. this is the entire point of a "discussion thread" -- to contain follow-up posts on the same thread!
next time just post on the original discussion thread; that will make things easier for everyone.

Hi Ron,
Actually i confirmed this in PM https://www.beatthegmat.com/football-tea ... tml#452765
See,Last 4 examples in read & green( Now, i have modified the 2nd one. Earlier it was as below and was in green)

ii)Wanted to reach home quickly, the football team took a short cut.
Here, "Wanted to reach home quickly" is working as an ADVERB, modifying the whole clause

The changed version is as below ( also i have changed color, in original post, from GREEN to RED to show that this sentence is incorrect)
ii)Wanted to reach home quickly, the football team took a short cut.
Here, "Wanted to reach home quickly" is working as an ADJECTIVE, modifying the noun "football team" but it needs to be converted to correct participle which according to above rule can be PRESENT Participle only

No issues, i do understand that unintentional mistakes can be made by anyone and i am sure everyone would agree with me in admitting that you have been an immense source of knowledge throughout our GMAT journey. You Rock !!!

when you pm'd me, i confirmed that the green ones were right and the red ones were wrong. so, i confirmed that the "wanted" one (which was red) was wrong.

ok.

well, for some reason i thought it was red when i saw it. (:
we're all on the same page now, so, all good.

by the way -- this is a good illustration of why you should not ask questions in private messages (the same request i always make). you should ask the question IN the thread, and then link to it when you send your PM. i'm not smart enough to read in two windows at the same time.
