population of deer

CAn you help me.

Over the last 10 years, the population of deer in America increased dramatically
over the past decade, while the number of drivers who report car accidents with
deer on highways is more than four times what it was.

(A) increased dramatically over the past decade, while the number of drivers
who report car accidents with deer on highways is more than four times
what it was
(B) increased dramatically, while the number of drivers reporting car accidents
with deer on highways is more than quadruple what it was at that time
(C) has increased dramatically, while the number of drivers reporting car accidents
with deer on highways has more than quadrupled
(D) has increased dramatically over the past decade, while the number of drivers
reporting car accidents with deer on highways is more than four times what
it was at that time
(E) has increased dramatically over the past decade, while the number of drivers
who are reporting car accidents with deer on highways are more than
quadruple what they once were

OA:C Why not D

The problem I see in {D} is:

(D) has increased dramatically over the past decade, while the number of drivers
reporting car accidents with deer on highways is more than four times what
it was at that time

here, "that" has no antecedent.

Also, "over the past decade" is redundant. the non-underlined part already states "Over the last 10 years"

Hi Mate,

I think in D "over the past decade" is redundant !!!

Hi RajeshP,

Both Rahul and dominhtri1995 have pointed out the errors in some of the answers. Here is another important point: don't be ambiguous or vague with your language. Grammar rules are all about "relationships": Noun-Verb, Noun-Pronoun, Verb-Verb, Lists, Idioms, etc.

In answer D, the end of the sentence uses the phrase "at that time." The problem with this is that there is no "time" mentioned in the sentence - there's a range of time (over 10 years), but the phrase "THAT TIME" can only refer to a specific time, not a range.
