SC- Pronoun error

The federalists papers is a compliation of articles written by Alexander H. and James M., as well as few by John Jay, since each of them were advocates of consitution.

B. since they were each
C. since all of them were
D. each of which was
E. because all of the men were

according to me D&E are definitely wrong... I am confused regarding ABC

cansome explain with lill more insight about Pronoun errors

To me E gets rid of the pronoun problems that other options face.

Use of they/them in A/B/C is ambiguous as they can refer to either the men or papers.

Let me know if i am missing something.

they is referring to "Alexander H. and James M., as well as few by John Jay"

The correct choices are
they were each OR
each of them was - since this option is not provided

E is definitely verbose

original sentence - articles written by......advocates

is wrong since articles is plural so articles written...advocate should be correct

so in order to match advocates

The federalists papers is a compliation of articles written by Alexander H. and James M., as well as few by John Jay, since they were EACH
advocates of consitution.
