SC - Pronoun error

Encyclopedias have been an important source of general knowledge since the eighteenth century, and it is still considered to be an important reference by all types of people, who use the information for anything from doing research papers to improving trivia skills.


(A) it is still considered to be an important reference

(B) it is still considered to be important references

(C) they are still considered to be important references

(D) they are still considered to be being an important reference

(E) being still considered to be an important reference

THis one is really easy. Now you made me think about the quality of questions that Knewton has in comparision to the real GMAT question types.

OR the source you are referring to is a source book, which really doesnot have high level questions.

Here is the Solution.

YOu need they for encyclopedias, ELIMINATE A,B.

Subject and odject should also agree in numbers i.e MAny enclyopedias can not be a single refernce; it should be refernces. ELIMINATE D, E.

Therefore C.

Encyclopedias is plural so 'it' is wrong as it is plural - A,B -out
Left C,D,E
D- being- without being the message is clear so its wordy .
Left C,E
The sentence is of the form IC, and IC- so we need an independent clause in the second part
E- is not an independent clause
C looks fine, whats the OA

Shekhar.....

I am at the initial level of the Knewton course (only in session 2) and i am posting only such questions for which i require some understanding which is required apart from Knewton in BTG community, as BTG is one place we have many minds.

Hoping when the session goes on the difficult topics would populate.

By the way, i posted this question, to ask someone to structure out the IC (independent clause) and DC (dependent clause) for me.
Can you structure the answer sentence for me?

Also we have references and reference
we can eliminate options with reference as subject is plural

This SC has two independant clauses combined with a conjunction AND. Note that there is not such dependent clause in the sentence.
