idiom - shown

by confuse mind » Mon May 23, 2011 10:41 am
Please clarify me whether 'shown as' is the correct idiom or 'shown to be'
And if both are correct, what are the differences in the usage?

Thanks,
Confused

To me, Shown as seems to be right.

I googled and found both of them correct in one or other examples. In the above case, even I feel that 'shown as' makes more sense.

But, 'shown to be' is also correct in some *other* cases.

e.g, The recent research has shown Macintosh to be Stronger than Windows. :)

From all this and some prior knowledge base, can someone please conclude on the usage guidelines for 'shown as' and 'shown to be'
