Ambiguous pronoun reference

by focusgmat » Tue Jun 29, 2010 3:32 pm
The company known for its benevolence and community-involvement has donated over $100,000 to charity over the last twenty years and will continue to do it as long as it is financially able.

a - same
b- will continue to do that as long as it is financially able
c- will continue to do so as long as it is financially able
d- will continue to do it as long as the company is financially able
e- will continue to do it as long as they are financially are
OA : C
Please tell me why the answer cannot be B
that as a relative pronoun would refer back to donate

On initial read through, continue to do it --> "it" is ambigous...it should be to do so.. SO [a b d e] is out... c is the cream of the crap...Its an action which author anticipates to be repeated in the future.

a - same
b- will continue to do that as long as it is financially able
c- will continue to do so as long as it is financially able
d- will continue to do it as long as the company is financially able
e- will continue to do it as long as they are financially are

donate is a verb here and that is acting as a pronoun. a pronoun can not refer to a verb!

a - same
b- will continue to do that as long as it is financially able (continue to do so is better use then to do that)
c- will continue to do so as long as it is financially able (i think this is better)
d- will continue to do it as long as the company is financially able
e- will continue to do it as long as they are financially are
