The contrasting tone calls for D, "although".

A shouldn't be correct because you can't connect two independent clauses by comma only.

Hey uwhusky

yes - OA is D

Sorry - but am not able to see the contrasting tone in sentence - it saying -

XXX resorts broadcast music - skiers can choose from A/B/C options - and there are no slopes without music.

please elaborate coz am not able to understand the contrasting tone - else i would have chosen D with 'altough'.

Thanks

We can actually use POE and eliminate all the other choices:

(A) skiers can choose among hard rock, soft pop, and "beautiful music" slopes, there are
Incorrect. Two independent clauses connected by a comma.
(B) because skiers can choose hard rock, soft pop, or "beautiful music," there are
Incorrect usage of "because...", context does not call for because.
(C) however, skiers can choose among hard rock, soft pop, "beautiful music," and
Incorrect list, makes no sense.
(D) although skiers can choose among hard rock, soft pop, and "beautiful music" slopes, there are
(E) skiers can choose among hard rock, soft pop, "beautiful music" slopes, but
Incorrect usage of but...

So even if you can't see the contrast, you can probably use POE and eliminate all the other choices. Remember, the trick to SC isn't to find the best answer, but to eliminate all the wrong answers.

@ uwhusky - I couldn't see the contrast earlier, but now i can.
@ puneet - the first clause is an independent clause, the second clause tells you the choices in music skiers have, and the last piece draws contrast against the 2nd piece that they have to have some music selected. I read it as just 2 independent clauses stating facts, not seeing the contrast at all.
