would go for C

A and B are wordy.
D uses passive and hence is longer than C
E. needlessly uses past perfect, has no subsequent past event

am not too sure, but if there is one word for a group of words, using that one word makes the sentence concise less wordy

for instance:
doubled instead of increased by twice;
trebled instead of increased by three times
quadrupled instead of increased by four times ( i guess)

Use double triple as verbs and twice, thrice for comparisons.
