that cannot be used with comma so eliminate D and E
with which it is not clear what actually it reflects so eliminate A and C
so the answer is B

is that statement true about a comma not being able to follow a period? if so it's going in my notecards... i did choose B though :-)

i would say D & E are 'run-on' sentences, as the usage of which / that for 'restrictive / non-restrictive' clause is deemed controversial as per OG12 SC10.

AND in option B properly connects two independent clauses and hence correct.

subject of the verb 'reflects' is 'number'.

that number - > (adj) (noun)

I think 'that number' refers to 'more than 40 news papers'
