Got a 710 today, is this a mistake?

I just took the GMAT today and got a 710. Is this a mistake? I got a 47 on the quant (70the percentile) and a 40 on the verbal (90th percentile)- how does this add up to a 710 (92nd percentile) overall?

I love my score, but this unofficial report has me concerned.

Hi nbauer99,

Congratulations; 710 is a fantastic score (and there's nothing wrong with your score report). Each section on the GMAT has it's own percentile. Percentiles are a measure of how you performed relative to other Test Takers; Scaled Scores are the scores that matter though, as they measure how well you performed against THE TEST. While each individual section had its own percentile, your OVERALL performance was better relative to Test Takers than either of your individual results.

Awesome score, nbauer99 - congrats!

To add to Rich's comment, I'll say that test-takers often have one score (Verbal or Quant) that it much higher than the other (e.g. Q50 V20). So, performing well on both sections (as you did) is rare enough that your scores placed you in the 92nd percentile.
