my answer is E
The subject here is actually "the sales of the novel reaching the zenith" which was regarded by the analysts to be due to.....

B is incorrect because it implies that the novel was the result of the tensions... this changes the meaning of the sentence

Let me guess, the source if this question is Max GMAT :D

Yes, "zenith" is used correctly in E. This is the answer as it maintains the sales as its central subject.

Your question of idiom... "Regarded...to be" is a good question.

I can see atleast one source which say that "Regarded ...to be" is incorrect.
