5. A, B, C and D are four consecutive points on a straight line. What is the distance between A to D?
(1) AC = 6.
(2) BD = 8.

OA is E. I am not sure why not D? Would not consecutive points mean equally spaced?

No four consecutive points does not mean equally spaced. It just means that one comes after the other a<b<c<d

the problem with both statements is that niether state that BC is fixed. Without BC being fixed AD can vary. Hence S1+S2, insufficient.
