If m, r, x & y are positive, is the ratio of m to r equal to the ratio of x to y? B
a. Ratio of m to y is equal to ratio of x to r
b. Ratio of m + x to r + y equals ratio of x to y

oa b

its basically asking if m/r = x/y

1) m/y = x/r : insufficient, it could be if all of them were the same number of proportinately equal or it doesnt have to be.

2) (m+x)/(r+x) = x/y

rx + xy = my + yx

by manipulation xy cancel out.

and the end result would be x/y = m/r

(B)

Question is asking if m/r = x/y ?

Statement 1: m/y=x/r INSUFFICIENT.
Statement 2: m+x/r+y = x/y.
Let this ratio be equal to k. i.e. m+x/r+y = x/y =k
=>x=ky and m+x=rk+ky
=>m+ky=rk+ky
=>m=rk or m/r=k=x/y
SUFFICIENT
Hence B
Thanks
