by nandy1984 » Thu Dec 15, 2011 6:31 pm
A higher interest rate is only one of the factors, albeit an important one, that keeps the
housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did earlier in the decade.
"¢ keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did
"¢ keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did
"¢ keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did
"¢ keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like
"¢ keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did

Hello All, Here iam looking for only the S-V agreement...Here the verb KEEP should be plural or singular???? are we refering to A higher interest rate only or all the factors...Please explain....Thanks

A/D/E - wrong as we should be using as here.

one of the factors is followed by 'that' which connects factors to the rest of the clause. So we should be using plural verb keep.

IMO B.

One of the noun (plural) + that/who + plural verb
One of the noun (plural) + singular verb

P.S. Underline the part under study.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

"factors,modifier, that keep/keeps"

that refer to "factors" --- plural

so it should be "keep" !!

Hope this helps
