Critical-thinking instruction

Critical-thinking instruction is predicted on two assumptions: that there are clearly identifiable thinking skills that students can be taught to recognize and apply appropriately, and if recognized and applied, students will become more effective thinkers.
A. if recognized and applied, students
B. if these skills are recognized and applied, that students
C. if students recognize and apply them, that they
D. that if recognized and applied, students
E. that if students recognize and apply these skills, they

parallel : that X and That Y

so A,B, and C out

they are using will so, if clause must be in present form.

Hence E.

E for me too..

First "that" parallelism bring us to Choice D and E

secondly E is more clear in meaning than D..

So its E for me...

IMO E.

IF .... THAT ... - Incorrect. B and C are wrong.

Recognized and Applied - Incorrect Tense. A and D are incorrect.

THEY doesn't refer SKILLS. THEY refers STUDENTS. Its a speciality of IF..THEN construction.

they can not refer to SKILLS...

because they are touching each other. NOUN and pronoun can not touch each other in a sentence.

they is referring to STUDENTS.
