This one is definitely tough.

A. a critique of all chemistry since Robert Boyle as well as a vision of a - This sentence uses as..as.. construction correctly. Since is used in simple present tense. Our Winner
B. a critique of all chemistry following Robert Boyle and also his envisioning of a - This answer choice is wrong because when we use and in an sentence that anything before "and" should be parallel to anything after "and". In this case. a critique of all.. is not parallel to his envisioning of .. also this answer choice is wordier than A
C. a critique of all chemistry after Robert Boyle and envisioning as well - This sentence is just horrible, plug it in the original sentence and the error jumps out and sings to you.
D. critiquing all chemistry from Robert Boyle forward and also a vision of - An awkward construction. OUT
E. critiquing all the chemistry done since Robert Boyle as well as his own - as well as his own new chemistry... Doesn't make sense OUT

First of all the sentence is checking for modifiers

The nineteenth-century chemist Humphry Davy presented the results of his early
experiments in his Essay on Heat and Light, a critique of all chemistry since Robert
Boyle as well as a vision of a new chemistry that Davy hoped to found.

[his Essay on Heat and Light this sentence following this needs to modify the Essay on heat and light . That essay is a critique . Since an essay is nonliving thing it can not critique any thing but it can act as a critique . That's why D and E are eliminated]

[In A , B and C two things to note

1. Parallelism AS - AS
2.whatever is mentioned needs to modify the essay and not Humphry Davy

B dose the mistake of modifying the the scientist and not the essay and also the parallelism is missing envisioning changes the meaning

Since robert boyle is better than AFTER robert boyel ]

A. a critique of all chemistry since Robert Boyle as well as a vision of a
B. a critique of all chemistry following Robert Boyle and also his envisioning of a
C. a critique of all chemistry after Robert Boyle and envisioning as well
D. critiquing all chemistry from Robert Boyle forward and also a vision of
E. critiquing all the chemistry done since Robert Boyle as well as his own
envisioning of
"Know thyself" and "Nothing in excess"
