The phenomenon of sleep still mystifies researchers; it is a condition where the body may become violently animated or where it may be completely paralyzed.

(A) it is a condition where the body may become violently animated or where it may be completely paralyzed

(B) it is a condition where the body may become violently animated or it may become completely paralyzed

(C) it is a condition in which the body may become violently animated or complete paralysis may occur

(D) it is a condition in which the body may become violently animated or in which the body may become completely paralyzed

(E) it is a condition in which the body may become violently animated or become completely paralyzed

OA is
E.
I was confused between D and E and chose D. Though both D and E both maintain the parallelism, but have a doubt from where to start looking for parallelism. Please explain.
Thanks
