THE RIGHT EXAM-GRE or GMAT?

by SHASHANK RAINA » Sat Jan 19, 2013 4:44 am
Hey Lisa,
In the process of preparing for a Business school, i took up GRE instead of GMAT, as i find it much easier to score relatively. I wanted to know whether it's a good idea to prepare for GRE instead of GMAT. What i mean to say is, will a top tier B-school like Harvard, or Sloan consider me in the same light as a GRE taker, as they would have, had i taken the GMAT? Cause GRE reflects more on the indepth knowledge of Maths and Vocabulary, sure its equally good for a b-school(as they say), but "there" i guess we would need more of being able to "strengthen" or "weaken" arguments, say during a debate.....won't we?

Also, what should i consider a good score at GRE for getting into HBS or Sloan...."Quant" and "Verbal"?

Hi SHASHANK RAINA,

Thanks for posting. Regarding the exam, all things being equal it is preferable to take the GMAT. However, there are candidates who take the GRE and are accepted into top programs.

I recommend you read this case study of a candidate who took the GRE and was accepted into Harvard Business School: https://www.stacyblackman.com/2011/04/27 ... -low-gmat/

Best,
