We can plug in the answer choices, which represent the number who own both types of cars.

Answer choice C: 7 own both types of cars.
Since total Fords = 16, 16-7 = 9 own only Fords.
Since total Toyotas = 11, 11-7 = 4 own only Toyotas.
Total who own only 1 type of car = 9+4 = 13.
Doesn't work. Eliminate C.

Since just a few more must own only 1 type of car, slightly fewer must own both.

The correct answer is B.

Answer choice B: 6 own both types of cars.
Since total Fords = 16, 16-6 = 10 own only Fords.
Since total Toyotas = 11, 11-6 = 5 own only Toyotas.
Total who own only 1 type of car = 10+5 = 15. Success!

let x be the no. of people who own both ford nd toyota (lucky :D)
only F+only T= 15
16-x+11-x=15 (people who own ford-who own both=people who own only ford, same applies to toyota)
on solving x=6.

option B

i liked Mitch's solution though.
