Minority Population

by fighting_cax » Mon Feb 09, 2009 3:36 pm
In the 1980’s the rate of increase of the minority population of the United States was nearly twice as fast as the 1970’s.
(A) twice as fast as
(B) twice as fast as it was in
(C) twice what it was in
(D) two times faster than that of
(E) two times greater than

OA is C

Please explain.

Narrowed it down to B & C, C is better as it is less wordy than B, anyone?

agree with C
dude, this doesn't add any value. I know the OA, rationale would really help.

agreed dude.

Here you go..my explanation.

In the 1980’s the rate of increase of the minority population of the United States was nearly twice as fast as the 1970’s.
= In the 1980's the rate of X was ....... the 1970's
= the rate of X was in the 1980's .......... rate of X was in the 1970's
= the rate of X was in the 1980's .......... it was in the 1970's

(It should be like this for proper comparison)
only B and C remains.

B is not proper as because
rate1 .. as fast as .. rate2 not proper comparsion..
rate.. as much as... rate2 (looks ok)

C is the best option
