" Recent studies indicate that the ability of a soldier to remain calm
under attack by enemies, internal or external, determine whether
the soldier will be the victor or the vanquished."
I found this in aristotle material, the subject they say is 'Ability' a singular noun, but I think that the subject should be 'studies' as studies appear right in the starting of the sentence and is also not accompanied by any preposition. Is it to do with 'that'? Can someone please explain any general rule for these types of problems?
