we need a possessive subject - his

eliminate B, D & E

in Option C - to be going away - awkward

Hence A.

This is not a well written question, therefore I wouldnt worry about it even if you got it wrong. Especially for SC, try and concentrate on Official GMAT questions. GMAT questions are way better and tricky compared with any other source.

Just for the mental satisfaction, what is the OA?
