(B) when not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, possibly leads
(C) when they were unaccompanied by corresponding sales increases, can lead
(D) if not accompanied by correspondingly increased sales, possibly leads
(E) if not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, can lead

I started with the split
can lead v/s possibly leads. The verb lead is plural and modifies inventories. So I eliminated B & D.

second split: increases in sales v/s sales increases. Increase in sales seems better because it is clarifying that the increase that has taken place is of sales. Sales increases is not very clear. Eliminate C.

We are left with A & E. I prefer E because of the use of 'not accompanied by' and 'corresponding'.
I pick E.

Hi ...can u plz explain ..why they have taken Inventories rather than taking "rising inventories" - gerund phrase - which would have been singular...and we could have used Leads instead of lead.

If rising were a gerund here, then inventories would be its direct object.
But the verb TO RISE cannot take a direct object.
We don't rise something; we RAISE something.
Hence, rising here is an ADJECTIVE modifying the subject inventories.

May I ask what the difference below...still confuse : (((

I am not feeling something right about they
