SC - A conjuction problem

The ancient Egyptians built structures that still stand after 2500 years, their accomplishments are a marvel to behold.

B. years, their accomplishing marvels that are to be beheld.
C. years;and they have accomplished marvelous beholdings.
D. years; their accomplishments are a marvel to behold.
E. years, beholding their accomplishments is a marvel.

I was confused between D & C. IMO: C for its active style.

A is a run-on sentence.

I have no idea what B is saying.

C is wrong for putting conjunction and semicolon together; marvelous beholdings just sounds wrong.

D correctly placed the semicolon.

E is suggesting that ancient Egyptians is beholding...non-nonsensical.

I would just like to add to uwhusky's explanation for Choice C.

When more than one independent clauses exists in a sentence, we must pay close attention to the punctuation.

We can connect two independent clauses by one of the following ways:
1: By using comma followed by for/and/not/but/or/yet/so or FANBOYS
2: But using a semicolon

So always be careful to not use semicolon with the FANBOYS. Always use comma with those. :)
