Although, I got to understand the OA once I saw the explanation, but I am posting this question to understand the thought process involved to deal with questions like these.

IMO A,
they ignore anything that does not bear on their research. its never said that everything that they discover due to serendipity is totally different from what they investigate

A, between A and E. the others seemed out of scope / did not affect the conclusion.

A, to me, connects the premises to the conclusion.
