The length of a rectangular garden surrounded by a walkway is twice its width. If difference between the length and width of just the rectangular garden is 10 meters, what will be the width of the walkway if just the garden has width 6 meters?

(it is not typical question with an official answer, but i stuck here :( )

Can someone explain how is it done?

say a is the length and b is the width

a =2b
a-b = 10

b =10
a=20

now b -2w =6
2w =4
w=2

If garden is 6 meter broad, then its length is 16 meter. If the walkway has a uniform width of d meter, then

16 + 2 d = 2 (6 + 2 d) or d = [spoiler]2[/spoiler] meter.
