The number of photography framed by jack or taken by Octavia = [jack] + [octavia] - [Intersection of jack and Octavia]

No of photographs framed by Jack = 24 +12 = 36
Taken by Octavia = 36
Taken by Octavia and framed by Jack = 24

= 36 + 36 - 24
= 72 - 24
= 48

We can use the formula:

N(Octavia or Jack) = N(Octavia) + N(Jack) - N(Both)

Therefore, we have:

N(Octavia or Jack) = 36 + 36 - 24 = 72 - 24 = 48
