Hi All,
I have been more of a silent observer on this forum for the past year. I wanted to make sure to give some insights back on my experience on how I managed to get a 720 by listing some tips that I feel strong about:
1) Start practicing early, especially if you work full-time
2) Take the first GMATPrep to get an idea of where you stand on the score ladder
3) Focus on each of the 5 question types separately (DS, PS, CR, RC, SC)
4) Invest time to learn concepts, not just practice solving questions (e.g. MGMAT SC book to learn the proper structure of a sentence and the use of fragments, pronouns, ...etc)
5) Create a subconscious alarm in your brain that can make bells ring every 2 min (critical to keep track time - at least if you need more than 2 min on a certain question you will have control over upcoming questions)
Opinion on learning material:
(Compared to the real GMAT)
- Kaplan CATS: Scores scaled down, Quant is easier, Verbal is way harder (RC articles are nonsense)
- MGMAT CATS: Scores are close, Quant is harder, Verbal is close although longer text for all three RC, SC, & CR
- PR CATS: Score is wacked, Quant is a joke, Verbal is close but scoring doesn't make sense at all
- OG12 is a must
- MGMAT SC guide is great to improve SC
- Powerscore CR Bible definitely helps improve perception of CR type questions
- GMATPrep was very accurate for me
Best of luck to all,
Sam
Paying my dues (720)
