This seems confusing.

'a' cannot be the answer because, when the aspen fails to send hormone signals, the roots are no longer suppressed to produce more shoots, and therefore produces more shoots that will outnumber the existing ones. Here the question is other way round..

If periodic regeneration is affected, it will not spread, but will remain whatever they are. Meaning to say, their population is going to remain constant.

I am not able to arrive at any of the choices given. In the passage, from nowhere, coniferous tree details are included in the last sentence, but that does not seem to make any sense to me.

Can someone give a clear explanation and an appropriate answer choice? :?

A - opposite

C - when stem dies, clone is affected. Clone does not die,it starts producing more.
D - Correct, last 2 lines mentioned.
E - not mentioned.

My take for below 3 questions is C,A,A respectively
