Some of you may recognize me as the "left-brained, math-deficient journalist" who got beat by the GMAT. I am back asking all of you amigos how much study time I should have before I retake the exam. I am going to follow all of your advice EXACTLY (MGMAT, NOVA books, going back to high school math class, etc.). I had already studied since November (part-time) and done Kaplan and some tutor hours. But that only got me a 400. How much time should I give myself before the retake? How did you know you had studied enough to get the score you got?

I am sorry to bother y'all again, but any advice would be huge.
THANKS!!!

It really depends, but I'd say you know when you're ready if you've had three CAT scores that are around or above your target score. How long it takes you to get there, that depends on your individual study habits and the amount of time you're ready to invest in studying. For me, it was about two months, but I don't really have an impressive story. I only got a 70-point increase (my first CAT = 700; my final score = 770). In your case, it might take more to meet your standards.

You know you've studied enough when you begin to dry heave at the very sight of a Data Sufficiency question; when looking at any word begining with the letter G and ending with T gives you cold sweats; when thinking about parallelism makes you pull out your hair (if you still have any left); when somone asks you whether 6 is divisible by both 2 and 3 and you punch them in the nads... then and only then can you say you've studied enough...
