Profile Evaluation

Hi all,

I was just hoping to get an idea on whether or not I actually have a shot at getting into my top school choices this fall.

Undergrad: University of Chicago, Econ - 3.0
GMAT: 720 (Q47, V42, AWA 6) My quant score is definitely lower than I had hoped for
Work Experience: Started off in property management at a small firm in Chicago and have been promoted 4 times in the 2 years, currently run the accounting department for our Chicago operations and have one person who reports to me
Other: Did a lot of Model UN in college and also was involved in a consulting extracurricular working with non-profits.

I want to make the move to management consulting after an MBA.

I plan on applying to:
Booth
Wharton
NYU
UCLA
Ohio State

This seemed like a solid variety of top tier, second tier and OSU as a safety (although the fact that it is a really small program worries me a bit, I feel like admissions can always be a bit more random)

Thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to offer. Looking forward for schools to start posting their 2013 apps!

I think you're in the right range, but not sure how you came up with that list given your career goals.

Booth, Wharton and NYU are certainly heavily recruited by consulting firms, but they are also heavier on the finance side as well. UCLA is west coast driven (and historically - also has strong finance recruiting). Schools that tend to be more consulting/industry focused are Kellogg, Tuck, Ross and Darden. Again any of these schools (including the schools on your initial list) are fine, but I assume you have your reasons for choosing those schools.

In any case, it's just a matter of buckling down and doing the best you can on the applications. You've chosen the right range and the right number of schools (5-6 schools total).

Thanks a lot for the response. To be completely honest, Ross and Kellogg were taken off my possibilities for relatively irrational reasons. I appreciate the insight on the other schools though, I think I could easily replace UCLA (UCLA was another relatively irrational decision) with Tuck or Darden.

Thanks again for the input, I'm actually really looking forward for schools to start posting applications now that I don't have GMAT studying to do!

EDIT:
After looking at Darden I have no clue how that was completely off my radar. I definitely plan on axing UCLA and replacing it with Darden. I also may end up adding Kellogg as a 6th school since my reasons truly are silly (I just realized one of the people who I will be asking for a rec is a Kellogg graduate...)

Sounds like a plan. The fact that you recognize the irrationality of the process at times is a good thing (too many people see it as a clinically logical thing - whether it's their own decision-making or the adcoms'). Good luck with the apps!
