Hi Lisa
First of all my heartfelt thanks to you people as you are doing an excellent work of helping lots of folks like me. Let me give a quick intro about myself.
About Me:
I've done my Bachelors in Electrical Engineering (a 4-year course) (graduated in 2003) from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (one of the top-notch Engineering Schools of India). However, my (cumulative) GPA was 6/10 (2.4/4.0). The only face-saving part from my school is that my final year GPA was (3.3/4.0). After my Bachelors, I started working in the software industry with about 3 years of experience in India and 3 years of experience in the US working for companies like Motorola, Nortel and Juniper Networks.
I'm very scared of the amount of negative impact my very-low GPA would have on the prospects of me getting an admit to good school.
Could you please help me with suggestions as to how I can minimize the effect of this low undergrad GPA? What are the possible options I can explore and which schools can I target with this background?
Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking time and reading out.

Thank You
Chandrakiran

Dear Chandrakiran,

The most effective way to mitigate a low GPA is to score very high on the GMAT. You can also take a few courses to demonstrate your ability to succeed in the classroom. Finally, it might be worth writing an optional essay regarding your academic performance in college. It is not necessary to make excuses in the essay, but very necessary for you to explicitly state, and give reason to support, how you will do better in business school.

Good luck,
Lisa

First of all thanks Lisa. However, could you also please enlighten me on what a "very high score" in GMAT is? Once again thank you very much for the helping hand.

Regards,
Chandrakiran

High is over a 690 and very high would be over a 740. You want to try to score in the 700's if possible.
