profile evaluation

Can you please provide some evaluation/feedback on my background.

Target univs:
Wharton, Sloan, Columbia.

Age:27yrs.

GMAT: 750 (V42, Q49) 2nd attempt; 640( V:27, Q:49 ) 1st attempt
GMAT Essays: 5.5

Work Ex:
2 years at Intel, CAD algorithm research, Central Software Unit for all microprocessor projects.

Currently( 1+ yr) at Goldman Sachs, Foreign Exchange technology division.

Education:
Under grad, IIT Bombay, Computer Sc, GPA: 7.5/10.0
Masters, North Carolina State, Computer Sc, GPA: 3.75/4.0

Extra Curricular:
2- year affiliation with National Social Service, chapter of IIT Bombay, which involved 1 person mentor 1 kid for a year. Volunteer work to visit slums, collect educational statistics for various families and help families in need for free tutoring of kids.

Team lead for Goldman Sachs sponsered charity event for "Women In Need" charity organisation.

Volunteer for Katrina Relief Fund Collection for Intel sponsored events.

Volunteer Production Assitant, for theatre group Naatak, in Bay area California,an amateur theatre group focussed on ethnic (mostly Indian theatres)

Orientation Counselor to International Graduate Students at North Carolina state.

Lot of Theatre activities in College involving leadership roles for group for script teams, organisation leads for arrangement of on-campus theatre performances by outside professional groups. Hostel Color for achievements in theatrical activities for the hostel.

Hi ackerman80,

Your academics are definitely within the target range for those schools. I think there are some interesting elements in your background to focus on for strong personal essays - I like the theater group volunteering in particular. And you seem to have a strong level of volunteering in your background.

I would advise focusing on really pulling out the leadership elements of your experience both in and out of work. Sometimes those with a tech background can get quite technical in their essays, so avoid that tendency and focus on the big picture of teams, managing and relationships.

thanks Amy. are there any good sites where one can get tips to write essays or which have some sample essays.
