Hey guys,
I'll try provide as many details as possible as succinctly as possible (already failing)
Took GMAT and got 680. Went to USC Marshall for undergrad and majored in Finance and Real Estate where I graduated with a 2.78. All of our classes were curved towards a 2.8 (should have worked harder). I was the social chair of my fraternity and graduated in 2009, there were no jobs (in LA, where I wanted to live) in either the finance sector or RE. Liked the challenge and brutality of entertainment. Work exp is as follows
1 year: Major talent management/ production company as a mailroom employee and assistant (yes that's how you start) was there for 10 months before a big manager there, who became kind of a mentor told me to get my butt to a talent agency, so i left to work at William Morris Endeavor.
18 months: worked at William Morris Endeavor as an assistant for two big agents, both have since said they will happily write the best rec for me. Decided i didn't want to be hazed and screamed at for 5 years to become a talent agent, i wanted to create stuff, so i now work at a major studio.
6 Months: Work as a junior TV producer, very fun stuff but alas not what I want to do long term.
I want to get an MBA because I want to switch industries.
I know that I need to build leadership community service experience OR alternative transcript however the nature of my job leaves me time to do EITHER one or the other on Saturdays. I can't take class at night, i work until 9PM typically so Saturdays would have to be my day devoted to building up my MBA candidacy. My strengths are all in writing, it's what I do for work day to day, it was also my strength (i'm a history/ english guy, not a math/ sci, but I can be since i'm way more mature now :)that's why i feel like the essays and the story i carve will be my greatest strength/asset.
What should I do re: community service vs. alternative transcript? I am shooting for Fall 2013. My ideal schools are UT-Austin, USC, UCLA, SMU and NYU is my Dream School (full or part time). Do I have a shot at getting in to any of these?
Would very much appreciate any and all responses.
Thank you so much, this website helped me get this far, I am so happy you exist.
Best,
Oupa
