A winning MBA Application.

Business school students face a uniquely difficult challenge, because most programs require a series of essays rather than a single, comprehensive personal statement. This fact alone should indicate the importance that business schools place on your written responses. Part of the reason for this extra required writing is that business schools also place a stronger emphasis on practical experience.

Academic ability may still be the number-one factor, but it's not enough to get you into a school, just as it's not enough to guarantee your success in the business world. Business schools pay close attention to personal qualities. It includes:

1.Leadership
2.Communication skills
3.Initiative
4.Vision, and many more.

Grades and scores do not explain this side of you, and neither does a resume. Thus your admission will depend largely on your ability to convey your experiences and goals in written form.

Self-assessment is a significant part of this process, as is a careful review of both your life and what you have done professionally. Many successful professionals have simply never had to articulate their accomplishments before and now for the first time must communicate this information in a very clear, concise, powerful manner that is accessible to anyone, even without knowledge of their field. Being able to convey both the substance and significance of one's work life is crucial for all applicants.

Hi Nathan,
I agree with you that business schools give attention to all those personal qualities but my personal view says that Communication Skill has the power to show your ability and capability. All that can be important but we cant ignore that communication skills is also a important skill for that.

Typically, the applicants to an Executive MBA Program must have a minimum of five years professional work experience. Executive MBA Programs are designed to meet the needs of upper level managers. Candidates are often evaluated based on what they will bring to the program. In most cases, taking the GMAT is not required.

MBA Program applicants are not required to have professional work experience, but they must take the GMAT. An MBA degree is essentially a general management degree.

Yes,a candidate requires an resume application for both Full time MBA and an Executive MBA.Pattern is same for both applications.
Here is the general format for the resume/Application for MBA:
There are general four to five section required which have brief description of your activity and academics.

Name Section
"¢ Place name block in center or top right corner of page.
"¢ Make sure your contact information is current and will be valid for at least one year.

Summary Section
"¢ Optional section that appears following Name section but before Experience section.
"¢ Contains brief overview of skills and accomplishments most relevant to your target audience.

Experience Section
"¢ Convey key responsibilities and accomplishments relevant to your intended target rather than
simply listing job duties.
"¢ Use action verbs and target-appropriate words so that hiring managers don't have to guess about
your experience and qualifications.

Education Section
"¢ This section includes the education history.

Additional Information Section
"¢ Only include information relevant to your target audience or that positions you in a unique way
"¢ Include professional associations or licenses, language fluency, permanent work authorization or
visa status, volunteer activities, and personal interests (if unique in some way)

Experienced Format (usually for those with 5+ years of experience)

Entry-Level Format (commonly used by full-time MBA students targeting associate level jobs)
"¢ Resume is one page only.
"¢ Generally includes four separate sections in the following order: Name, Education, Experience,Additional information.

Hmmm, out of the four I'd agree with the Leadership thing, although what that means can seem amorphous at times. Maybe more than leadership I would even put "Prior Proven Success". That one is always a winner!
