A -> bones are now prehistoric animals? not really...
D -> "known at present" is awkward
E -> those has no clear antecedent

B -> "known as" is the wrong usage here

it has to be C

in B "presently known as from large prehistoric animals"
is firstly wrong construction and secondly its modifying "europe"
