Type of Extracirricular

by EMAN » Thu Sep 17, 2009 9:46 am
Is there a certain type of activity that I should not include in an application. For instance, as I a musician, I was involved in a rock / heavy metal band where we put out a CD and were on a small record label. We also played with many established nationally recognized artists. Because of the style and potentially having this considered a hobby, I am understandably hesitant to include this on an application despite the high level professionalism and dedication involved. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Your MBA resume is a selection of hand-picked activities that show various facets of you. The unique you.

We also played with many established nationally recognized artists.

Ideally, this part in quotes should go in your 'interest' section as a bullet point.

Just because you are applying to B-school does not mean you need to hide your 'fun' side. Add it in Interests. (Specially, since it is a big personal achievement and your passion) How many of us can say that we played with nationaly recognized artists? (Just make sure you can back it up with authenticated information - in case they ask you during your interview). :)

Hope it helps! Good Luck.
