"Some employers who recruit recent college graduates for entry-level jobs evaluate applicants only on their
performance in business courses such as accounting, marketing, and economics. However, other employers also expect applicants to have a broad background in such courses as history, literature, and philosophy."

Do you think that, in the application process, employers should emphasize one type of background-either
specialization in business courses or a more varied academic preparation-over the other? Why or why not? Develop your position by using reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.

The evaluation process of applicants for a job varies from company to company. Few employers have seperate departments which work through out the year to help the company in finding the right candidates to fill the vacant spots. The kind of information or the amount of technical background that is being looked in a potential candidate varies from employer to employer and even it varies between job requriements with in an employer. The issue given, is focussed mainly on recent college graduates who might have little or no on-hand job experience on thier chosen field of study. In my essay, I will try to list what kind of knowledge an employer will look for in an entry-level job from a recent college gradute and why. I will conclude this essay on what I think should be the emphasis of the employer in terms of the knowledge from chosen field and the overall acedemics of a candidate.

A company when looking for a recent college gradute to fill an entry-level job will always look whether the candidate has the basic knowledge or the understanding of the job description and will try to evaluate the candidate's knowledge to see whether a candidate will fit the job. So, a candidate should first be evaluabted on his/her field of study. This evaluation is necessary for a company and this will decide how much time or money will be spent on a candidate to bring the candidate up to speed on his/her day to day activities. The evaluation on acedemic courses such as history, literature and philosphy etc. will help the company identify the over all interests of the candidate and to understand how sharp or interested a candidate is in other areas of study. This evaluation will help the company to see the overall learning interest of the candidate and his over all performance as a student.

In my opinion, I would give more emphasis on the candidate's recent field of study as it is important to perform day to day activities inside the company. At the same time, a little emphasis should be given on the candidate's overall acedemic performance on other fundamental subjects because those subjects formed the foundation in the early learning curve and should not be ignored.
